Terry Zweng Training Scholarship
The BC-IAAI Terry Zweng Training Scholarship is awarded annually to a successful candidate enrolled in the
Chapter 15 Annual Training Conference. This award is dedicated to Terry Zweng who passed away in August 2020.
Terry was a long-standing chapter director, president, and training proponent in fire investigation.
Terry retired from Vancouver Fire as Captain of Fire Investigations in 2006, but continued to learn, promote,
and inspire others to develop careers and expertise in the Fire Investigation field through private investigation
and this chapter. Terry fully retired in 2013 to bike and travel the world.
This scholarship is intended to assist students with enrollment fees towards training provided through the Chapter 15 and who would otherwise not be funded by their respective public or private employer. Candidates are nominated by BC Chapter 15 members. The award amount is based on the training course selected. Final selection of awardee is based on nominations presented by the Chapter Scholarship Committee to the Board of Directors.

Eric Laity Memorial Education Scholarship
The Eric Laity Education Scholarship of $1000 is awarded annually to successful candidates who are students related
to IAAI Chapter 15 members. In 2019, the Education Scholarship was renamed the “Eric Laity
Memorial Scholarship” after long-time IAAI Chapter 15 Director Eric Laity passed away in May 2019.
Eric was a long-standing and prominent member of the BC Chapter of the International Association of Arson
Investigators. As Secretary and Director of Chapter 15, Eric tirelessly maintained the chapter regalia, minutes and
financial books, memberships, and communication with the membership and our international association.
This scholarship is intended to award students who show dedication, professionalism, community involvement, and strive for excellence in future studies; all characteristics that we all saw in Eric.
